Where does the data come from?

The data comes from realestate.co.nz 
It shows the number of listings that were put on the website over the prior 12 months.

Housing stock vs listings, what’s the difference?

This graph shows the listings that were put on realestate.co.nz over the prior 12 months. 
This is different from another graph on our website, which shows the housing stock.
The housing stock shows the number of properties that are available at any one time. For example, it excludes any listings that have been sold or withdrawn by the seller.
This graph, on the other hand, includes listings that were taken off or have sold.

How do the number of listings impact house prices?

If many listings are available, people will think there is a lot of supply. This means that people feel like they can take their time choosing a property. 
This leads to less competition and softer house prices.
On the other hand, if there aren’t many listings available, people will feel like there is a shortage of houses. This leads to FOMO (fear of missing out).
This makes people more competitive and more likely to bid up house prices.

Can I download the data?

No. We don’t have a feature that lets you download the data on our website.
You can, however, sign up to realestate.co.nz’s mailing list to get the data sent to you each month.
