What happens if I give you my data?

Here's how we'll take care of your data in My Wealth Plan

Introduction

We want to make sure your portfolio planning session is a good use of your time.

To make that happen, you need to give us your financial information in advance.

That allows your property partner to be prepared and ready to give you quality financial advice from the get-go.

But that raises an important question. You might wonder, “What happens to all my data once I put it into your system?”

This page answers the most common questions investors ask us, in plain English.

Why do you need my data

Collecting your data before the Portfolio Planning Session does 2 things:

  • Your property partner can prepare in advance, which means you can start discussing your financial situation straight away.
  • You will save an extra 15 minutes in that meeting. That’s because your data automatically gets pulled through to our financial planning software. So, you don’t have to watch your property partner manually type your information into the software.

Providing your information in advance means you’ll save time and have a better-quality meeting.

Will you share my data with anyone?

Only financial advisers and selected members of the Opes Partners team have access to your data. If our team members don’t need access – they don’t have access.

If you give us permission, we will share your data with some of the subsidiaries of the Opes Group. For instance, Catalyst Financial – our mortgage advisers.

This will only be done if you tell us this is ok and if it’s genuinely helpful to you. For example, if it saves you time and means you don’t have to re-type all your information into Catalyst’s system.

Though, it’s worth noting that if you apply for a mortgage through Catalyst Financial, they legally need to collect your data again from scratch. Just a heads-up.

How long will you keep my data?

When you become an Opes Partners client, we legally need to keep your financial information for 7 years. So, we will hold your details for that time. After 7 years, your financial information will likely be deleted.

You can ask for a copy of any personal information we hold about you at any time. And if there’s something wrong, you can ask for it to be corrected. You can also do this yourself through the software.

If you have any questions or you’d like to ask for a copy of the information you’ve given us, contact us via email at [email protected]. Or, if you prefer the post, send a letter to PO Box 1965, Christchurch Central, Christchurch 8011, New Zealand.

Will my data be safe?

No website is fully hacker-proof.

However, we have created this system with our web developers to be as safe as possible. This includes following web development best practices to ensure your financial information is secure.

If there ever was a data breach, we legally need to tell you as soon as possible. We are using all reasonable endeavours to respect your data and keep it safe.
